PFC Avery Brunk is the Sully District Police Station’s Officer of the Quarter for April, May and June. He was honored at the Sept. 13 meeting of the station’s Citizens Advisory Committee (CAC).

Brunk is a member of Sully’s Neighborhood Patrol Unit (bike team), and his fellow team members were on hand to see him receive his award. At the start of the meeting, Capt. Dan Spital, the station commander, praised Brunk for being a police officer who’s “extremely proactive and likes to make arrests.”

“He doesn’t just go out on the calls he’s assigned to,” said Spital. “He goes above and beyond the call of duty to keep the community safe. Avery does a phenomenal job, so we’re very proud to have him here in the Sully District and happy to honor him as the Officer of the Quarter.”

Nominating Brunk for the award was 2nd Lt. Scott Reynolds, the bike team’s supervisor. “Avery is a dedicated member of the Sully Neighborhood Patrol Unit [NPU],” wrote Reynolds. “He proactively patrols to help create a safer community here in the Sully District.”

Noting that Brunk is also the station’s gang coordinator, Reynolds said, “He keeps our officers informed on gang trends and known gang members/associates within our district. And outside of his normal duties with NPU, he’s a member of our Peer Support team and also helps as an evaluator at the Criminal Justice Academy, assisting with practical scenarios for the recruits.”

Furthermore, Reynolds explained, “Brunk has been actively involved in writing numerous search warrants in hopes of locating a particular fugitive from justice, taking him into custody and serving the outstanding warrants against him. Brunk coordinated with our Fugitive Squad and, after several months of tracking the wanted subject’s whereabouts, he provided an address to our Fugitive Squad – which was able to apprehend him in Maryland on July 27.”

For all of these reasons, wrote Reynolds, “PFC Brunk is a great asset to not only the Neighborhood Patrol Unit, but also to the Sully District Station. He is well deserving of this award.”
