District Indoor Track and Field Championships Completed

South Lakes boys win Liberty ahead of second place Langley; Oakton girls capture Concorde crown.

The South Lakes High indoor track and field teams were victorious on both the boys’ and girls’ sides at the recent Liberty District championships, held over two days at the Prince George’s County Sportsplex in Maryland. The first day of postseason competition took place on Friday, Jan. 27. The second and final day of action was held last Thursday, Feb. 2.

Huge Turnout for South Lakes Baseball Opener

Seahawks fall to Herndon in local rival game, 13-3; Oakton off to 3-0 start.

The South Lakes Seahawks varsity baseball team kicked off their 2012 high school season Friday night, March 16 against rival Herndon High. The rain cleared and the stands at South Lakes were packed with a large contingent of fans, including students and little leaguers. Reston Little League was well represented on both teams with 18 alumni participating.

Northern Region Sports Notes (April 25-May 1)

Girls sporting pink look at district lax playoffs; McLean boys tennis unbeaten; Templin leads Saxons softball over Marshall.

This week the undefeated McLean High boys' tennis team, under head coach Aavo Tomkov, had a challenging slate of competition versus Liberty District opponents. The Highlanders (8-0), earlier in the week on Tuesday, April 24, were scheduled to travel to cross-town and Liberty District rival Langley High (7-1).

Oakton Boys’, Girls’ Cross Country Advance to States

Madison’s Calem, Herndon’s Heuer earn all-region.

The Oakton cross country program qualified its boys' and girls' teams for the state meet, which is scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 10 at Great Meadow.

Oakton Rules the Pool

Oakton High School’s Varsity Swim and Drive teams continued their undefeated season with a win over Herndon High School Friday night, Jan. 11. The girls won with a score of 197 points over Herndon’s 112. The boys won 194 to 121.

Oakton, Langley Football Reach Postseason

The Oakton and Langley football teams each earned a spot in the 6A North region playoffs. Oakton enters the postseason as the region’s No. 14 seed and will travel to face No. 3 Lake Braddock at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 14.

It's the fall season, and the annual high school homecoming tradition is in full swing across Fairfax County and the rest of the country. For some of this year's Herndon High School Hornets, “HOCO” (homecoming) created memories that will last a lifetime.
